The Honorable John Warner
Dear Senator Warner, I am writing to express my strong support for S.150, the Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act. The U.S. House of Representatives passed similar legislation on September 17th, and I am asking you to support passage of S.150 in the Senate. This legislation is necessary to establish fair treatment of Internet access as a unique commodity and not simply as an extension of the telecom industry. We do not need fixed pricing schedules that do not respond to market forces to overtake Internet access in this country, as we saw happen after efforts to regulate the telecom industry. I applaud this legislation’s move to provide language that is far more inclusive then the previous version, listing all forms of current Internet access, ranging from dial-up to DSL and broadband to wireless. In addition, I believe provisions in this legislation to close a loophole that at least 13 states are currently using to justify their taxation of certain kinds of Internet access, will help keep Internet access affordable and, in turn, help narrow the digital divide in this country. I urge you to support all efforts in the Senate that would establish equitable treatment for all levels of Internet access. Thank you for considering my views on this important issue. Sincerely, Joe Activist
